Executive Director

NSCLT’s executive director, Doug Cole, was raised here on the North Shore where he attended Sunset Beach Elementary School and Kahuku High School.  After graduating from Kahuku, he received his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of California at San Diego in 2000 and quickly returned home to the North Shore.

Doug spent his first three years back on the North Shore substitute teaching and coaching swimming and water polo at Kahuku High School.  Subsequent to that, he got his real estate license and developed extensive real estate experience in both sales and property management.  Doug has been involved with numerous North Shore community organizations including the Sunset Beach Community Association (past President) and the North Shore Neighborhood Board.  He was also a founding board member of the Oʻahu Land Trust and helped with the collaboration that led to the formation of the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust.

Doug served as NSCLTʼs Pūpūkea Paumalū Project Coordinator from May 2008 through the end of 2009 and as its Executive Director since January 2010.  He recently completed his studies at the William S. Richardson School of Law at UH Mānoa in May 2010 and passed the Hawaii State Bar Exam in October.  When he has spare time, Doug enjoys hiking and clearing trails, water polo, spending time with family and friends, and surfing the waves around his home on the North Shore.
